What is Therapeutic Massage?
According to Johns Hopkins, "Therapeutic massage incorporates a variety of advanced modalities that enhance the body's natural restorative functioning." Here at Sweet Serenity Massage and Salt Therapy, our therapeutic massage is a mixture of Trigger point therapy, myofascial release, deep tissue/pressure, and swedish massage. Trigger point therapy involves applying pressure to painful or sensitive areas to relieve the pain. Myofascial release uses pressure to stretch and lengthen the tissue, holding muscles in place. Deep tissue/pressure is slow deep strokes that target inner layers of muscle and connective tissue. And a swedish massage technique uses long soft strokes to promote relaxation and to re-energize you.
Our Therapeutic Massage sessions' primary purpose is to promote healing for the client-being, that deep tissue is subjective and different for everyone. Therapeutic massage creates a session that meets any client's needs for the day of their appointment. Our therapists sit down with you before your massage to ensure they start the massage correctly. A Therapist may need to use deeper pressure in one area and not another because that area doesn't need the same pressure or touch. This gives our therapists here at Sweet Serenity Massage & Salt Therapy the ability to adjust to the client's needs as the massage progresses.
"Research has shown that therapeutic massage techniques may be helpful in the following conditions:
Stress, Anxiety, Depression: promotes relaxation response, enhances coping mechanisms in patients undergoing cancer treatment, reduces symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress disorders.
Pain control: fibromyalgia, arthritis, sciatica, headaches, childbirth.
Chronic lung disease: increases respiratory function and decreases anxiety.
Digestive: adjunctive therapy to the treatment of chronic constipation.
Injuries: overuse and repetitive strain injuries, workplace and athletic trauma, whiplash."
